Permit for Construction on Public Right-of-Way

The Owner/Developer and Contractor agree to comply with the regulations of the City of Carbondale, with regard to the installation of any sidewalks, driveways, curbs, gutters, culverts, trees, landscaping, and/or any other structure or improvement on the public Right-of-Way as required by the Carbondale Revised Code and Public Works Engineering Department.

    By checking the "I agree" box below, you agree and acknowledge that 1) your application will not be signed in the sense of a traditional paper document, 2) by signing in this alternate manner, you authorize your electronic signature to be valid and binding upon you to the same force and effect as a handwritten signature, and 3) you may still be required to provide a traditional signature at a later date.

  7. Sidewalk and Driveway Design Criteria
    • Sidewalks within the public right-of-way must have a minimum width of 48 inches, a minimum thickness of 4 inches and a maximum cross slope of 1:50 (2%), and a maximum longitudinal slope of 1:12 *8.33%).
    • That portion of the sidewalk that extends through a driveway shall be a minimum of 6" thick and comply with the above provisions for width, cross slope, and longitudinal slope.
    • The portion of a driveway that is on public right-of-way shall be a minimum of 6" thick.
    • All sidewalks and driveways shall be constructed of Portland Cement (P.C.) concrete with a minimum compressive strength of 3,500 psi.
    • No driveway entrance or sidewalk on public right-of-way shall be poured without prior notification and inspection by the City of Carbondale Engineering Division; please call (618) 457-3270 at least 48 hours prior.
    • The owner/developer and/or contractor shall contact J.U.L.I.E. at (800) 892-0123 or 811 a minimum of 48 hours prior to commencing any work.
