City of Carbondale, Illinois 

October 16th, 2023

For Immediate Release

CARBONDALE – On October 14th, 2023 at 4:07 a.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to a business in the 400 block of North Illinois Avenue for a burglary alarm. Officers located the suspect, Carlos J. Phenix, 67 of Chicago, actively engaged in burglarizing the business. Phenix fled from officers but was eventually captured after a brief foot pursuit. Property belonging to the business was located and returned. Phenix was charged with Burglary and incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
