Carbondale – City of Carbondale detectives continued to follow up on the shooting and vehicle theft that occurred on October 13th, 2023 in the 900 block of West McDaniel Street. Detectives were able to identify a male juvenile from Carbondale as a suspect in the incident. With the assistance of the Jackson County State’s Attorney, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the juvenile, charging them with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Vehicular Hijacking, and Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. On October 14th at approximately 10:15 p.m., Carbondale detectives coordinated with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police to arrest the juvenile on the warrant without incident during a traffic stop in Williamson County. Information obtained in the course of the investigation led to the discovery of the stolen Jeep in the 400 block of North Oakland Avenue that same evening. The juvenile was incarcerated on the warrant, pending a hearing. The victim has been released from the hospital. The public’s assistance in this ongoing investigation is appreciated. The case remains active and ongoing.
Carbondale - On October 13th, 2023 at 11:00 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 900 block of West McDaniel Street regarding a man who had been shot. Officers arrived and found a male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim reported that he was stopped in his vehicle talking to a black male he did not know when the male shot him through a car window. The victim exited his vehicle, at which time the suspect entered the vehicle and fled the area. The victim’s vehicle, a gray Jeep Cherokee with Tennessee license plate MB 1439, has not been located. The license plates on the victim’s vehicle are special issue Memphis Grizzly license plates. The suspect is described as a black male of medium height wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The victim is in stable condition at a local hospital. The investigation is active and ongoing.
