Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

For Immediate Release

CARBONDALE – On October 6th, 2023 at 3:33 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 700 block of West College Street regarding a report of two suspicious males outside a residence, and one of the males was reportedly armed with a handgun.  Officers located two males matching the descriptions of the suspects and detained them without incident. In the course of the investigation, officers arrested Vernell, J. Lollar, 18 years old of Carbondale, for Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon after he was found to be in possession of a handgun. He was also charged with Home Invasion after it was learned that he unlawfully entered a home and threatened the resident with the firearm. The second male, Tyrez J.T. Gails, 18 of Carbondale was arrested for a valid Jackson County Failure to Appear Warrant on a prior arrest for Resisting a Peace Officer. After consulting with the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, Lollar and Gails will be incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. No one was injured in the incident. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
