 Update - Hit and Run Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Traffic Crash Investigation

 For Immediate Release

CARBONDALE – On September 26th, 2023 at 7:30 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 400 block of East Walnut Street for a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash involving a pedestrian.  Detectives continued to follow up on the investigation and with the assistance of the Jackson County States Attorney’s Office, obtained an arrest warrant for Dewone D. Miller, 37 of Marion, for Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Accident Involving Personal Injury and Aggravated Battery. Anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of Miller is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200.  The Carbondale Police Department also continues to search for the vehicle involved in the accident.  The vehicle is a grey 2010 Nissan Rogue with Illinois registration K60 0864.  The victim is still in a local hospital in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

Hit and Run Suspect Vehicle

 Prior Release - On September 26th at 7:30 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 400 block of East Walnut Street for a report of a hit-and-run traffic crash involving a pedestrian. Officers arrived and located the victim with serious injuries. The victim was transported to the hospital by the Jackson County Ambulance Service.  Witnesses indicated the suspect vehicle was a silver or gray sports utility vehicle which was last seen turning south on South Graham Street from East Walnut Street. Detectives were able to utilize intersection cameras and privately owned cameras to identify the suspect vehicle as a 2010 Nissan Rogue, Illinois license plate K60 0864. The Carbondale Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the vehicle.  The victim remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
