Update: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Investigation
For Immediate Release -
CARBONDALE – City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of South Illinois Avenue on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 p.m. regarding shots fired and a report of a shooting victim. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified multiple suspects, including juveniles, involved in the incident. On September 8th, 2023 officers and detectives located and arrested a male juvenile of Carbondale on a warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm that was obtained with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office. The juvenile was incarcerated pending a future hearing. A warrant was also obtained for another juvenile male from Carbondale for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. That juvenile is still being sought by detectives. The shooting victim remains hospitalized in stable condition. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

09-02-23 - City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of South Illinois Avenue on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 p.m. regarding multiple 911 calls for shots fired and a report of a man who had been shot. The shooting victim was driven by ambulance to the hospital for further treatment. The name of the victim is not being released at this time. The victim is listed in critical condition. The investigation revealed the suspect and the victim are known acquaintances. There is no suspect information to release at this time. Officers and detectives are actively working on this case and more information will be released when it becomes available. There is no known threat to the public.
