Carbondale – On August 6th, 2023 at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers of the Carbondale Police Department and members of the Carbondale Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 900 block of West Sycamore Street. The building was found to be vacant and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire was determined to be arson. During the course of the investigation, officers arrested Mylena G. Fruits, 35 of Carbondale, for Arson, Criminal Damage to Property by Arson and Criminal Damage to Property. Fruits was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
