****Update-Aggravated Battery Investigation****

CARBONDALE - City of Carbondale detectives continued to investigate the stabbing incident that occurred on the afternoon of 07-14-23 in the 500 block of South Poplar Street. Detectives identified the suspect, Phillipe J. Mignon 21 years old of Carbondale. A Jackson County Sheriff's Deputy located Mignon at approximately 7:00 p.m. in Makanda and arrested him without incident. Mignon was charged with Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Battery in a Public Place. Mignon was transported to the Jackson County Jail for incarceration.

Carbondale – On 07-14-23 at approximately 12:43 p.m. City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 500 block of South Poplar Street in reference to a stabbing. Officers provided emergency medical aid to the victim until the Jackson County Ambulance Service arrived and transported the victim to the hospital. The injury is not considered life-threatening. The victim was treated for injuries at the hospital where they remain in stable condition.
Officers learned that the victim arranged to meet the suspect, whom they did not know, for a transaction through a social media app. During the transaction, the suspect battered and stabbed the victim. The suspect is described as a black male in his twenties, about six feet tall and thin with a light complexion. It is believed the suspect left the area in a red vehicle with a hubcap missing from the front driver-side wheel.
The investigation is ongoing. The Carbondale Police Department encourages anyone arranging a transaction with someone they do not know to do so in a public place or a designated safe location such as the Carbondale Police Department.
