[ARCHIVED] Motor Vehicle Theft/ Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by Felon Arrest

 City of Carbondale, Illinois

November 7, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Carbondale- On 11-06-22 at approximately 6:10 p.m. City of Carbondale police officers stopped a stolen vehicle in the 700 block of East College Street.   Officers arrested the driver, Domonique J. Smith, 29 of Carbondale and learned he does not have a valid driver’s license.  During the course of the investigation, officers located a loaded firearm inside the vehicle.  Officers charged Smith with Motor Vehicle Theft, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by Felon, and No Valid Driver’s License.  Smith was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.   The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
