CARBONDALE – West Jackson Street at the intersection with North Illinois Avenue will be closed to all traffic beginning at 6:00 A.M., Monday, July 11, 2022, and will remain closed for approximately 7 to 10 days. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.
Local traffic may utilize Jackson Street from University Avenue to access businesses west of the closure.
The closure is necessary to allow the contractor to reconstruct the intersection as part of the Downtown Streetscape Project.
The City apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause and greatly appreciates your patience, understanding and cooperation as we work to improve the downtown area.

North Poplar Street Closure Notice from Southern Illinois Healthcare
Also beginning, Monday, July 11, at 7:00 a.m. N. Poplar Street west of Memorial Hospital will be closed to through traffic as shown below the week of July 11th, 2022; this will require the road to be closed and traffic to be re-routed around the work area shown below. Construction will be installing new utilities across North Poplar Street towards Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Staggered barriers will be installed at the intersections of Poplar Street and both Oak Street and West Main Street (west bound Hwy 13); local traffic will be able to pass through the staggered barriers. The physician parking lot and the loading dock will remain accessible. The sidewalks on poplar street will be temporarily closed for the duration of the road closure. It's recommended that the parking garage be utilized for parking needs.
