[ARCHIVED] Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon Investigation

On 06-14-22 at 5:40 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a report of a male in a parked car with a handgun.   Officers arrived in the area and located the suspect, identified as Darius F. Estes, 34 of Carbondale.  The officers found a firearm in the vehicle that was reported stolen in Murphysboro, IL.  Officers charged Estes with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons by a Felon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm and being an Armed Habitual Offender.  Estes was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  The investigation is active and ongoing.
