[ARCHIVED] Unlawful Use of a Weapon by Felon Investigation

On 05-20-22 at approximately 11:03 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to a business in the 1900 block of South Illinois Avenue in reference to a report of a disorderly person.  Officers arrived and identified the disorderly person as Antwoine C. Smith, 49 of Carbondale.  During the course of the investigation, Smith was found to have two Jackson County warrants for his arrest for Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and for Failure to Appear in court for Battery.  Smith was also found to be in possession of two firearms.   One firearm was reported stolen during a prior theft case investigated by the Carbondale Police Department in January 2022.   Officers arrested Smith for both warrants and charged him with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.  Smith was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  The investigation is active and ongoing.
