[ARCHIVED] Aggravated Assault Resisting a Peace Officer Investigation

On 02-04-22 at 5:42 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to a business in the 1400 block of East Main Street in reference to a report of a person threatening people with a knife.   Officers located the suspect exiting a vehicle on the parking lot of the business and discovered he was still holding the knife in his hand.  Officers ordered the suspect to drop the knife by utilizing de-escalation tactics and he complied.  The suspect attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured.  Officers identified the suspect as Troy Johnson, age 58 of Carbondale.  During the arrest, officers found that he was in possession of items stolen from a nearby business.  Officers also learned Johnson entered an occupied vehicle without the consent of the driver or passenger. Johnson is charged with Aggravated Assault, Resisting a Peace Officer, Criminal Trespass to Vehicle and Retail Theft.  Johnson was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  The investigation into this incident is still active.
