On 01-14-22 at approximately 2:45 a.m., City of Carbondale Police officers responded to Amtrak, 401 South Illinois Avenue, in reference to a report of a man threatening people with a knife after he was removed from the train by Amtrak employees. Officers located the suspect, later identified as Charles Pearson, 80 of Chicago, armed with a knife. Pearson attempted to get back on the train. Pearson complied with officers when they ordered him to drop the knife and he was placed in custody without further incident. After conferring with the Jackson County States Attorney’s Office, Pearson was charged with Aggravated Assault and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon. Pearson was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
