On 08-22-21 at 3:12 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of West Cherry Street in response to shots fired at a residence where a party was taking place. SIU students and non-students attended the party.  Officers found a gunshot victim and attempted life resuscitation measures.   The victim was later pronounced deceased at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.  While officers were at the hospital, three other victims came into the emergency department on their own from the same location with non-life threatening gunshot wounds.  The deceased victim is a student at SIU and is not being identified until next of kin notifications are complete.  The other victims are also not being identified at this time and they are not associated with SIU.  There is not any suspect information to provide at this point in the investigation.   The SIU Police Department is assisting with the investigation that is currently active and ongoing.  Anyone with information about this incident or anyone who attended the party is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.
