[ARCHIVED] City Adopts Updated Mask Guidance

Updated Mask Guidance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE – Following guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), the City of Carbondale has adopted updated guidance on face coverings, effective immediately.

This is a direct result of our region, Region 5, experiencing an increase in the number of positive COVID-19 cases which has categorized Jackson County as an area of “high transmission.”

The CDC's updated mask guidance, released on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, recommends that when indoors, individuals are required to wear a face-covering and maintain 6 feet social distance, regardless of vaccination status. The City of Carbondale will require all employees and visitors to wear a face-covering inside City buildings.

“I understand that getting vaccinated is a very personal choice. If you or someone you know are vaccine-hesitant, please reconsider, speak with your friends who have been vaccinated, and get additional information from your healthcare providers,” said Mayor Mike Henry.

To receive the vaccine, the Jackson County Health Department is hosting walk-in vaccination clinics at their facility in Murphysboro on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. On Tuesdays, the vaccination clinic is open 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.  Any Illinois resident over the age of 12 is eligible to receive the vaccine.

The City of Carbondale will continue to evaluate COVID protocols and adjust accordingly until the pandemic is officially over.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
