[ARCHIVED] Wild Animal Alert

The City of Carbondale Police Department is alerting the community of a wild coyote that has been seen by many people in the city limits of Carbondale over the last several weeks.  While this Coyote has not yet shown aggressive behavior towards anyone, it is sick and it is wild.  It is reported that certain people have made Facebook posts claiming that it is a dog and they are wanting to help it.  Please take note this is NOT a domesticated pet dog, but a wild coyote.  DO NOT APPROACH this animal in an attempt to assist it.  You may cause it to feel threatened and it may attack you or others out its natural instinct to protect itself.  The Carbondale Police Department Animal Control Officer is aware of the coyote and is monitoring it closely.  Again, for your safety please DO NOT APPROACH this animal.  If you see this coyote, pictured below, you may report it to the Carbondale Police Department at (618) 549-2121.
