FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale’s Public Works Department is joining dozens of Public Works Departments from across Illinois to collect food and household goods to support local food banks during National Public Works Week, May 17-23.

All donations will support the Victory Dream Center and Good Samaritan Ministries Food Pantry at University Baptist Church. In recent weeks, both organizations said they were seeing a   record number of families in need of assistance due to COVID-19.

This week, donation bins will be set up at the following locations:

  • Kroger, 501 N. Giant City Road
  • Neighborhood Co-op Grocery, 1815 W. Main Street

On Saturday, May 23, a Public Works truck will be parked at the Carbondale Farmer’s Market from 8 a.m. to noon to collect donations.

Suggested donations include pasta, canned meats, canned fruit, cereal, cooking oil, canned vegetables, cleaning products, diapers, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and tissues.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
