[ARCHIVED] Motor Vehicle Theft Investigation

On 04-13-2020 at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to the 2400 block of West Main Street in reference to a report of a reckless driver who struck a street sign and continued driving east bound.  Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver refused to stop.  Eventually, the driver of the vehicle, Lisa N. Chumley, age 36 of Carbondale, struck an embankment causing the vehicle to become stuck in the 300 block of North Wall Street.  Officers arrested Chumley without further incident.  During the course of the investigation, it was learned the vehicle was reported stolen in Murphysboro. Officers charged Chumley with Aggravated fleeing to Elude, Possession of Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving, Disobeying Traffic Control Device, and Driving the Wrong Way on a One Way Street. Chumley is incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.  The investigation into the incident is continuing.
