[ARCHIVED] Weapons Offenses

On 05-06-19 at approximately 6:10 p.m., officers with the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale in reference to a gunshot victim.  The investigation revealed the victim suffered a non-life threatening gunshot wound while in the 400 block of East Chestnut Street.  The victim is not being identified at this time.  The suspect description is a black male with a dark complexion, 6’2”-6’3” tall, wearing dark clothing. 

During this same time, officers were conducting a separate investigation of a person with a firearm at the Fields Apartments, 700 South Lewis Lane.  During the course of this investigation officers arrested Phillip D. Howard, age 29 of Murphysboro, for Unlawful Possession of Firearm Ammunition by a Felon.  Howard was incarcerated.  During the course of this investigation officers recovered two firearms.

At 8:15 p.m. another victim was dropped off at the hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound which also occurred in the 400 block of East Ashley Street, which is adjacent to East Chestnut Street.  The victim is not being identified at this time and there is not any suspect information to provide at this point in this incident.

These investigations are currently active and ongoing.  Although there is not information available at this time to connect the incidents, there is also not information available to rule out that they are related.
