On 04-12-19 at approximately 7:30 a.m., Carbondale Police Officers were on foot patrol at the Carbondale Community High School. The officers were notified about a disturbance that took place on a school bus in the 600 block of East College Street that was en route to the High School. One of the suspects involved in the disturbance allegedly possessed a weapon. The male suspect fled from the bus and never arrived at the High School. Carbondale police officers and detectives responded to the High School to begin the active investigation. The disturbance involved known acquaintances who were involved in a dispute. The suspect is identified as a Carbondale Community High School student and the investigation is currently ongoing.
Based upon this information, the High School implemented a lockdown for precautionary purposes. There are not any known threats to the High School, the students, faculty or staff at this time.
When officers determined there was not a threat to students, faculty or staff, the school lockdown was lifted at approximately 9:10 a.m. The school administration is conducting an investigation in accordance with school policies and procedures. There will be additional security on the bus in question until the investigations are complete.
