The City of Carbondale recognizes sustainability is found at the intersection of Ecosystem Health, Community Wellbeing, and Economic Prosperity. Sustainability can be defined as the ability to "meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" (Bruntland Report, 1987). Done right, using a sustainability lens to look at the world is fiscally responsible, community-centered, and leads to positive feedback loops in our communities.
