Any person(s) performing electrical services on properties within City limits, other than their own, has to be a licensed electrician. At this time, the City of Carbondale does not offer testing for an electrician's license but will accept licenses issued from other Illinois municipalities.
Electricians must keep a current copy of their license, surety bond, and liability insurance on file in the Building and Neighborhood Services Division. Surety bonds are made payable to the City of Carbondale in the amount of $3,500.
Liability insurance requirements are not less than $100,000 per person, $300,000 for all persons, and $50,000 for property damage per accident. An electrical permit is required for each job performed.
