Electrical Licensing

Any person(s) performing electrical services on properties within City limits other than their own has to be a licensed electrician. The City of Carbondale does not offer testing for an electrician's license but will accept licenses from other Illinois municipalities.

Electricians must keep a current copy of their license, surety bond, and liability insurance on file in the Building and Neighborhood Services Division. Surety bonds are made payable to the City of Carbondale for $3,500.

Liability insurance requirements are not less than $100,000 per person, $300,000 for all persons, and $50,000 for property damage per accident. An electrical permit is required for each job performed.
