Drop-Off Recycling Collection Guidelines
In addition to City's Curbside Recycling Collection Program, the City of Carbondale provides three recycling drop-off locations for residents to use at their convenience. These locations are also available for residents of apartments or other buildings that are not eligible for the City's Curbside Recycling Collection Program. Recycling drop-off locations are at 610 E. College Street, 700 S. Oakland Avenue (University Baptist Church), and 851 E. Grand Avenue (G&R Rentals). View a map of the locations (PDF). Call 618-457-3275 with any questions.
Apartment Residents
Bins for apartment residents are provided by the Jackson County Health Department. Call 618-684-3143, ext. 136 for assistance.
Extended Hours Announced For Recycling of Electronic Devices
In an effort to reduce contamination from materials that pose environmental and health risks and to encourage recycling, a new state law went into effect on January 1, 2012, that prohibits certain electronic devices from landfills. City of Carbondale Solid Waste Collectors will be prohibited from knowingly collecting the banned electronic devices with other refuse on this date. The electronic items banned include the following:
- Cable Receivers
- Computer Monitors
- Computer Towers
- Digital Converter Boxes
- Digital Video Disc (DVD) Players and Recorders
- Facsimile (Fax) Machines
- iPODs and MP3 players
- Keyboards and Electronic Mice
- Laptop Computers
- Printers
- Satellite Receivers
- Scanners
- Small Scale Servers
- Televisions
- Video Game Consoles
- Video Recorders (VCRs)
Free Household Electronics Recycling Drop-off Service
To assist residents that have these items to recycle, the Jackson County Health Department has sponsored free household electronics recycling drop-off service at Southern Recycling Center. Hours of operation are 8:30a.m. - 4:30p.m. Monday - Thursday, 8:30a.m. - 3:30p.m. on Friday, and 8:30a.m. - 1:30 p.m on Saturday.
In addition to the normal hours, the City of Carbondale will partner with Southern Recycling Center and the Jackson County Health Department to help provide extended hours for residents to drop off discarded household electronics for recycling.
